Installing to USB as a HDD?

Hi peeps...

I have a 32gb USB stick I want to install Mint on...

I have used it waaaaaaaay back... possibly version 3... so I'm guessing it's changed a bit!

I need to keep my windows partition as I don't have enough space on my ssd to install mint alongside...

If i format the usb stick to ext4 then will I be able to install it and boot it from the usb without losing data? and not like the live boot with the 4gb persistence either...

If you have two USB thumb drives, or can spare a DVD, you can boot from the one and then launch the installer to install onto the other. Be sure to select to install the GRUB boot loader also to that USB thumb drive, and not to /dev/sda as that will overwrite the boot loader on your hard disk.

To be really safe as it's easy to F@#K up, just pull your ssd windows drive and install to the attached usb stick.
