Wifi on a Dell Latitude D830 - BCM4311

Post by dangIt12 »

Hi folks, hope someone can point me in the right direction to find some answers to my issue.

I have installed 64-bit Mint 14 w/ MATE on my previously WinXP Dell laptop. The issue I am having right off the bat is that the wired internet connection does work, but the wifi does not (it did work when running WInXP). Both the LED by the wifi power switch and the wifi indicator do not show any activity (both off all the time). I ran mintWifi and got the following:

nate@nate-Latitude-D830 ~ $ sudo /usr/lib/linuxmint/mintWifi/mintWifi.py

I am thinking I need to install a driver for the BCM4311. Can anyone point me to the correct software driver and how to install it? Am I going in the right direction? More info needed?

Thanks,
Nate

OK, so I did some more searching and found this fix for the BCM4311 for Mint 11.

http://drndivoje.wordpress.com/2011/07/ ... x-mint-11/

It had me download/install b43-fwcutter, comment out "blacklist bcm43xx" from /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf and reload b43 and ssb modules from the kernal. Still no joy. (Same reselts from mintWifi as shown in previous post).

Possibly the issue for Mint 11 is not the same that I am having with Mint 14?

Any help would be appreciated....

OK, got the BCM4311 to work. Will post details later in case someone else runs into this problem, although this forum seems a little like a ghost town...

Nate:

I'd love to know what you did to get this to work.

I tried over and over again to get this to work using 64bit Mint and it only seems to work on the 32bit version. I am thinking that there is issues between the two OS versions.

Hey dangIt12
As one ghost to another, i would very much like to see your solution. I cannot get my BCM4311 to work with mint 14 either. It works fine with Vista and Parted Magic...... Go figure
