Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I see you have an AMD (ATI) graphics card. On my machine, if I run the open-source driver (radeon) then I have a similar situation with the fan. The open source driver has poor fan control.

Try installing the proprietary drivers (fglrx) - see http://wiki.cchtml.com/ for instructions (although it seems to be down at the moment).

The GPU is also running at 75C. It's trying to keep cool. Try the FGLRX drivers, but be aware that you can severely break your system.

To be sure, installing fglrx is no picnic. But there's a ubuntu guide and an archlinux guide. I always use the Package Manager Synaptic and just pull in the packages listed on the ubuntu or arch linux guides. Using the package manager, with a list of the several required packages-- after reading the tutorials --and you may be ok.

I'm shopping for an Intel board to replace my ATI p.o.s. at the moment.
My desktop runs 64-bit Kubuntu 13.04, my htpc runs 64-bit Linux Mint Nadia Xfce, my answering machine runs 64-bit windows 7, and my laptop runs 64-bit Linux Mint Nadia KDE. Each seems suited to its purpose.
