<SOLVED> - Media streaming from an LG SP520

Post by Smaggy »

Ok, I've got a house server running LMint13, with a secondary hard drive mounted and sharing my Movies, music, pix, etc. across the network. All my computers Windows or otherwise can see and stream files through XBMC with no trouble.

Now, I've gotten an LG SP520 media box connected to my TV. In the network list, it can see all of the computers on my network plus the server with its shared folders. However, it cannot access the files within the shared folders.

The manual says I need CIFS sharing. I've been banging my head against the wall trying to configure CIFS through Samba but I don't think I'm doing it right.

The shared drive looks like this:
media/Storage/Video/Movies
media/Storage/Music
media/Storage/Pictures (you get the idea).

My command-line knowledge is still struggling from the DOS days, but I'm getting the hang of how the folder structure works.

Any thoughts?
Thanks.

Almost forgot to mention: I was using my own computer to learn to set this up and at one point, my LG recognized my PC and it said something to the effect of [PC-name]:root with a red spiral icon representing it. I could access the folder within that but the folders were empty. I'm trying to get it to show up again to include a screenshot so perhaps someone could recognize the icon to clue me in on what I did.

Well, after much reading I discovered that I should be using DLNA as my sharing protocol. So I set up Plex on my primary computer as a test. After planting a test video, my SP520 found the Plex server with no trouble and I was able to watch videos from my primary computer. So I installed it on my house server, set up my video folder and for some reason nothing is showing on my SP520.

I swear I've duplicated my steps. It's driving me nuts. It can't be because of the video drive, otherwise Plex would still show on the LG.

I found the trouble. Plex was broadcasting on IPv6 instead of IPv4. Got the instructions on how to disable IPv6 here:

http://www.noobslab.com/2012/05/disable ... et-is.html

After that, I rebooted and all is well. My TV can now pick up my entire movie collection through Plex on my house server along with all the computers through XBMC.
