I see that in the main edition 12 "Lisa", there's downloadable images that are small enough to fit onto a standard CD, CD-R, whatever. Is this an option avaliable for the newest edition?..
Otherwise, does anyone know if it could be an option for either 14 or the long time supported 13 that devs are working on?

CD versions have been discontinued and are never likely to return. The official 'solution' to this is to remaster the iso and remove packages until it is the right size.

BTW. If you have an existing LInux distribution installed with a grub2 bootloader then it is possible to boot and install directly from the iso without having to burn anything at all:

But it isn't easy

Because of the size of the content, and the fact that a vast majority of systems nowadays can either boot from DVDs or from USB, Linux Mint no longer provides images which fit in 700MB CDs. It is however possible and easy to to modify ISO images. By removing packages such as Java, Mono, LibreOffice, Gimp..etc.. Linux Mint ISOs can be made to fit within 700MB.
