I'm curious about comments I keep reading that MATE is, or soon will be, outdated because of gtk3. Mint 13 MATE is supposed to be supported for 5 years, but what are we looking at regarding gtk3? Is the transition from gtk2 to 3 going to be slow? Can we expect MATE to move swiftly to update to gtk3?
Thanks.

Re: MATE and GTK3
All that can be said is there are plans of porting Mate to GTK3 maybe in Mate 1.9 or later. Maybe even sooner with rise of Consort by one of LM Debian edition's developers Ikey Doherty . Maybe in the near future ,if Ikey succeeds, Mate will no longer by a Gnome 2 Fork but instead a fork Gnome 3.

Re: MATE and GTK3
somebody has to come with real reasons to convince me that a toolkit (whichever it is) has any impact in the survival of given DE.
mate uses gtk2 (same as xfce and lxde) but in all of them you can run any toolkit (gtk3, qt) without any problem (you just have to ensure that you have a compatible theme)
