I have recently installed Linux Mint Nadia on another drive and have been messing around with it for a couple days, or at least trying to. So far I have really loved the experiance. It is very beautiful and easy to customize to my preferences, and the software and features of it already avalible certainly helps with what I do on PC time (writing, music playing, GIMPing, screen recording*which is ultra awesome*), but I have not gotten very far because I have a few problems and questions. The problems keep me from installing almost anything. Here are some of them;
1)
A lot of my installs (games, apps etc etc) either fail because of permissions, or because of architectect or missing file problems. I can't update as well. I have tried the solutions in the stickied threads and have just attempted this solution, but the later freezes and shuts off halfway through. If I attempt to update normally, I get the "failed to fetch" problem. Here is what it says no matter the solution I attempt;
Failed to fetch http://mirrors.dotsrc.org/getdeb/ubuntu ... ce/Sources 404 Not Found
Failed to fetch http://mirrors.dotsrc.org/getdeb/ubuntu ... 6/Packages 404 Not Found
Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/alecive/antigo ... ce/Sources 404 Not Found
Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/alecive/antigo ... 6/Packages 404 Not Found
Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
Should I just wait until the server is back up to update?

My DVD drive no longer recongizes. I can't play CDs, movies, install games or anything. When I log out and into Ubuntu 12.04 or Windows, it works perfectly fine.

I have a few things I want to install and test out in Mint, but I get a lot of various errors. The most common is permission errors, others include "architectect" errors and "missing files" errors. For example, one game I'm trying to install for my kid siblibgs is called 'KQ' and no matter the files I try to install here, I am always given errors like "Error: Wrong architectect 'amd64" or "Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: liballegro4.2 (>= 2:4.2.2)'" or permission problems. Stuff in blue changes depending on what I'm trying to install. *please see note viewers

My resolution is WAY too big and I cannot see the bottom portion of the resolution screen to "accept" the proper change. Is there a terminal command I can run to fix this? I can't do anything with the current resolution.
Forget it. I had to restart PC, install x11-xserver-utils package (three times, first two failed), restart and then typed; xrandr -s 1440x900 to change my output. I think my install of Mint might be broken...How can I fix these problems?

*I am not having problems with KQ, that was just an example of the errors. If others are trying to get KQ to install, you will need this .DEB file. Do not APT-INSTALL, it doesn't work. Download 64 or 32, install it, and then get the files from here: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/intrepid/+package/kq-data and https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/intrepid/+package/kq depending on your system time (OS bit type etc etc). Once you have the .deb file installed, install KQ.
I think I might have to do a fresh install...may I ask if mintbackup's backups work in Maya, the stable version? Because if they do, then I will just go with Maya instead.
