Rolling back from FF18 -> FF17

Post by 3xOSC »

I juts can't stand the font that's been messed with in this version of Firefox, and I've tried nearly all the gfx.enable.this.piece.of.crap = true that I've found on various forums and nothing seems to have worked.

My fonts are blurry and seems pixellated !^@$@!
So here I am, literally begging to a solution to this problem.

1) Is there a way I can roll back?
2) I don't mind reformatting (I have to do that anyways, but can I make it so that it only updates to FF 17 and stops there)?
3) Where can I find the .deb for FF17.

Thank you in advance,

3xOSC

I have the same problem!!I tried all fixes listed on this forum and elsewhere, none of them work.
I haven't done this yet to my system,I plan on downgrading tomorrow but for FF 17 you have download the tarball and compile yourself using this tutorial.

Tarball:

-----------------------------------

For general reference here's how to downgrade to older version of Firefox in Linux Mint but this will only revert to the Firefox version on the ISO,which on Mint 13 is firefox 11 not 17.
Synaptic>click on firefox>package> forced version>Apply

I found some deb files though i'm unsure what to do with them. I'm not certain but I beleive you have uninstall firefox and reinstall using the deb file.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/ubuntuz ... lla-build/
Remove the package, with one of the methods:

$ sudo apt-get remove packagename
OR:
$ sudo aptitude remove packagename

Install the new *.deb package:

$ sudo dpkg -i /path/to/*.deb

After you have installed the prefered version of the package (by using method 1 or method 2), do this to stop your system update your package, as root:

# echo “packagename hold” | dpkg --set-selections

Example: # echo “ruby1.8 hold” | dpkg --set-selections

I also found some here:

https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org ... _64/en-US/

Mine is the esr, you have the 17.0.1 or whatever. what's the difference between the two.
I reformatted so now i am starting with the version of FF12 .

17.01 is the last version of 17. It supposely fixed the blurry font problem that many Windows users were having. I never had the problem on Linux using 17 nor 17.01 only now using 18. I going try 17.0.1.

Just installed no problems, the fonts are no longer blurry.

The only problem you have choose in firefox>preferences>advanced> Check for updates,but let me choose when to install them or never check for updates or else you firefox might automatically update to 18 as mine did a few days ago. Hopefully the problem will fixed in FF 19 (Feb 19, 2013).
