Hi, I have a laptop Fujitsu Lifebook E 8420 with Linux Mint 14 Nadya Cinnamon installed. When operating on battery, usb ports do not work. After turning the power USB ports begin to work. If anyone can help me ?
Think that is an issue with many older laptops with under-powered usb ports and why many portable external usb drives had two connectors to run from laptops. And very well may be the case with yours? Just guessing here as that was an issue on windows laptops that are 3-5 years old kind of thing.
Solution for many was buying a powered usb hub to plug devices into and plug that into laptop. Even some desktops have underpowered front usb ports and going to back usb ports sometimes solves the issue. .
Doubt it as it's a hardware design issue in motherboard cheaping out on usb ports support. Especially an issue for laptops and netbooks. A powered usb hub is the only solution I can think of. If that is truly your problem as not familiar with your laptop.
So google your laptop and underpowered usb query and see if it is indeed a known issue. .
