alternative to Skype?

Post by john_i »

Hi All,

Is anyone aware of an alternative to Skype? I've been browsing around and only recent software I've found was Asterisk, which seems to be a more intensive effort than I'm hoping for.

Thanks,

John

Alternative for video and voice chat? Check here: http://alternativeto.net/software/skype/?platform=linux. Not listed there, but also Gnome Empathy has I think video and voice chat.

I believe Ekiga is a popular (and completely open) alternative to Skype. Go to www.ekiga.org for more info. I believe it is available in Mint's repositories to download. This used to be called GnomeMeeting, but is fairly well used. Not sure if it's compatible with Skype though, so everyone involved in the call might have to be using the same software.
