The install of linuxmint-14.1-mate-dvd-32bit.iso from a DVD gives error dialogs, but then says “Install Complete”. It also displays “Error migrating documents and setting (as superuser). Selecting “Continue Testing” gives a message “Installer Crashed … will allow you to file a bug report... “ A dialog never appeared to file a bug report. After I opened a terminal and saved the syslog to a separate disk.
I tried this install several times with basically the same results.
I checked the md5 for the downloaded .iso and burned the DVD with Brasero. Brasero commutes a md5 sum so I assume it copied the iso file correctly.
Booting the installed system, the display stops after displaying a line:
“ * Starting CUPS printing spooler/server [OK]”
Hitting Alt-Ctl-Del at this points, a lot of lines scroll by, with finally a black screen. The only way I found to reboot from there is a hardware reset.
The disks are set up as follows:
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb1 * 63 491519951 245759944+ a5 FreeBSD
/dev/sdb2 491519952 983039903 245759976 a5 FreeBSD

The Mint system is installed on /dev/sdb4 which was formated by the Mint installer. I have no idea why fdisk shows it as Freebsd. /dev/sdb5 is an Ubuntu 12.10 installation, that boots and runs OK. /dev/sdb1 is a Freebsd 8.2 system that boots and run Ok. /dev/sdb2 is a PC-BSD 9.1 system that boots Ok, but has had minial testing. /dev/ad1 is a FreeBSD 9.1 system that boots OK, but I can not get it to run gnome. The default window manager runs OK.
The system hardware is:
# Intel Core 2 Duo Dual-Core E6300 2.8GHz 1066MHz 2MB Cache Processor
# ASRock G31M-S R2.0 Core 2 Quad/ Intel G31/ FSB 1600(OC)/ DDR2/ A&V&L/
MATX Motherboard
Display on motherboard interface
# 4GB (2X2GB) DDR2-1066 PC2 8500 Dual Channel
# Hitachi / WD 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB CACHE SATA 3.0Gb/s

I have attached the following files: syslog from the attempted boot of the installed system, and Mint_syslog_install, which is the syslog from running the install for the DVD.
(I do not see the attached files in the preview. If they are not in the submitted verison I will send them as a reply)
The dmesg file from boot attempt contains:
(Nothing has been logged yet.)
Mint_syslog_install contains warning messages about not being able to mount the ufs files system, but I do not see what that has to do with not being able to complete the boot of the installed system.
