Can I remove Mate elements via synaptic

Post by ambrostan »

Running LMDE with Cinnamon desktop. I currently have the option to switch desktop environments when logging out/in. I have not intention of changing desktop so can I uninstall components for other desktops via synaptice?

Sure, but it will be some work to crowbar them out... I did a comparison between packages installed on Linux Mint 13 Cinnamon, MATE and Xfce a while ago, and saved the results. I have this file with packages that were only installed on MATE. Also on LMDE, you should be able to safely remove these packages as these are MATE programs and libraries:

Code: Select all

atril
atril-common
caja
caja-common
caja-gksu
caja-open-terminal
engrampa
engrampa-common
eom
eom-common
gir1.2-mate-menu

mate-system-monitor
mate-system-tools
mate-terminal
mate-terminal-common
mate-text-editor
mate-utils
mate-window-manager
mint-artwork-mate
mint-info-mate
And the following is a list of libraries that aren't needed on Cinnamon either, though these aren't only for MATE--that was the only desktop environment that had them installed for one of the MATE applications required them I recall.

Code: Select all

libencode-locale-perl
