Re: MGSE bottom panel
Sorry for being the bearer of bad news, but MGSE development has been discontinued from early 2012. Cinnamon has superseded Gnome Shell + MGSE. Linux Mint 13 and 14 both come with a Cinnamon edition instead. You can still install the bare Gnome Shell if you want.
I'd recommend you give Cinnamon a try though, it's pretty awesome Here is a feature announcement for one of the recent Cinnamon releases: http://cinnamon.linuxmint.com/?p=207

Re: MGSE bottom panel
I am running Cinnamon 14.1 nadia, but i have also installed the mate desktop enviroment, KDE and gnome. I like being able to switch between them when i get tired of one of them, and maybe im lucky, but ive had no issues with running all of them at once ( i know alot of people have issues doing it, but touch wood, i havnt had any yet )
The problem with gnome tho is there is no suitable bottom panel available for it, frippery's bottom panel extension has alot of issues and its the only other option available apart from MGSE which I used previously and really liked. Its a shame they abandoned the project ...
O well, i guess i will just have to haunt/spam the dev to fix frippery to the point where i can use it
