Cannot Boot Cinnamon DVD [SOLVED]

Post by jackmason »

Brand new I5 SATA II/III system with 80 GB HD and two 250 GM SSDs. The SSDs are on the SATA III ports (0 & 1) and the HD and CD/DVD are on the SATA II ports (4 & 3).

[SOLUTION]
Turned out to be a DVD burned with an imgburn imitator. imgburn created the DVD correctly.

Post your video card/chipset used. As some graphic cards/chipset will choke on booting up liveCD.

We finally got it to boot and the mini-install already looks better than ubuntu.

Now we have encountered another problem. We want to install it on our RAID drives (Intel BIOS is doing RAID 1), so it appears as a single drive to Mint. We created a 10MB swap partition and a 240MB root partition. About the time we get to the "Where are you?" screen we get the message

"/dev/mapper/isw_ddiagcaede_BFL contains GPT signatures, indicting it has a GPT table. However, it does not have a valid fake msdos partition table, as it should. Perhaps it was corrupted -- possibly by a program that doesn't understand GPT partition tables. Or perhaps you deleted the GPT table. and are now using an msdos partition table. Is this a GPT partition table?"

It does not matter whether we click on YES or NO, it will not move on. Don't know what a GPT table is, but it does not have one. Do we need to format the drive before the install or does mint do that for us? The drive may have had ubuntu installed on it even though it appears to be an empty drive. Will formatting the drive get rid of the GPT info?

Do we need anything else on the drive other than swp and /?

Thanks

I sincerely hope you mis-typed and actually meant a 240G partition for /, as the minimum size is about 20 G for system files.

If you really set the partition sizes too small, that is likely why the system froze. Go back and set partition sizes more reasonably over the minimum system requirement and it probably will allow you to continue.

Yes, that should have been 10GB and 240GB. Having trouble thinking in GB apparently.
