Unable to get a screensaver running in Gnome Mint 14

Post by beerbunny »

This appears to be a question that'been asked before, but I haven't found a response that works on my PC.

I like a varied and interesting selection of screensavers (I don't think that the default screensaver fits that description), and I've searched the forum for a way of implementing this, but none of the things I've tried have worked, for example; "How to replace Gnome 3.4 Screensaver with Xscreensaver", which I followed exactly, but which appeared not to relate to my installation.

Can anybody help, please?

Thanks,

John

Are you using Gnome Shell then? It may depend on which desktop environment you use how this works. Or can you share the post you refer to?

If by Gnome Shell, you mean the Gnome Desktop, then yes, I am.

The post I'm referring to is this one; http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... creensaver

I got so far with it, then it wanted me to edit config/autostart/xcreensaver.desktop, which doesn't appear to exist on my hard drive, so Gedit attempted to create a new text file with that name, but failed, I'm guessing because I wasn't allowed to write to that folder, even though I was root at the time. Possibly the instructions are for an earlier version of Mint?

Thanks for the response. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
