Does it freeze to a black screen, but after a few seconds you can continue to work? I had that problem on Sandy Bridge and it was easily fixed by disabling rc6. http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 06#p636391

Worth a shot. You may also try upgrading to a newer kernel: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds. Or use newer Intel drivers: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates. I only needed the above fix on Sandy Bridge, but see my adventure here for some more tips perhaps: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=113043

Most relevant is for you to investigate after a freeze your /var/log/syslog file from just before the moment of the freeze. The Intel driver will have logged information there, which will help you find the solution to this.

and i am experiencing the same problem:
Random freezes (mostly when surfing), nothing works, and can only do hard shut down.

It really looks like a kernel issue. I have tried Mint Mate 13 at 32-bit as well and i had the same problems only less frequently.
I 'll try updating the kernel...
Any luck cse552? as i see this thread is pretty old...

I am also having lock ups using mint 14, 32 bit OS with my dual boot ms windows desktop system. All my updates are completed as well. It seems to happen when I work with software mgr. and also when I do cinnimond settings. I have installed Mint 3/4 times and it still seems to freeze up on me off and on. FYI

In my case i updated my Kernel, based on this guide: http://www.anthonynotes.com/2012/09/01/ ... ew-laptop/
and the problem seems to be solved. Over one week without a freeze.
