SD card. External hdds are mechanical (most of them anyways) and are more susceptible to damage from drops or vibrations.

If we compare 32Gig SD card with a 32Gig flash drive which will be better for storaging photos?

"32Gig SD card with a 32Gig flash drive"

Flash drive you mean the older micro drives? SD again has no moving parts.
If the flash drive you referring to does than less reliable.

Personally have gone beyond those limited capabilities.
As have over 30,000 images taking up 270GB in size.

As a result for protection drives are my only option. So images that are stored on my internal drive are also backed up to a usb external drive. So have at least 2 copies and one off site in the cloud to protect against theft and fire.

I see. Yes, with flash I mean pendrive. I wonder if the SD card is safer than the pendrive because I've seen many pendrives having trouble with viruses. On the other hand SD cards are rarely used than the pendrives and maybe thats why I haven't seen many problems with them.
My camera is old and it's making small photos so i don't need huge hdd to backup them. Anyways, if i get a new camera I'll buy an external hdd to backup them. :)

I can over-the-top that one...

Digital Photo's Music etc:

1. Store on internal 2TB drive
2. Partition Level backup on 2nd 2TB Drive
3. Parttion Level backup copy to external (usb) 2TB drive
4. File copies written to DVD - stored in water/fire proof safe

Let paranoia reign

I'd probably just carry it with me to the basement in the event of a tornado, hurricane, or end-of-the-world....

If I have to worry about that, the least of my concerns will be preserving data....

Everybody knows to take your usb drives or DVD's to a Bank Safety Deposit Box.
Just like that Twilight Zone episode when the passionate Bookworm with Bottle Cap eyeglasses was saved.
Because he was reading on his lunch break in the vault :P

Too Bad tho he was such a Klutz and tripped on the Library stairs making stacks of books to read.
And his only Bottle size lenses in his glasses broke. He should have had a Backup Pair!

Yeah, but won't it be too complex? I mean every time you want to add some photos in the HDD (stored in the bank vault) you have to go and take this hdd then put the new photos and then take the device back in the safe. :) By the way when I consider this it sounds very secure but... :)

Was kidding but do know one photographer that rotates externals to a safety deposit box every 3months.
So freshen and update home one. Takes to bank swaps with old one then updates and continues to use for next 3 months.
Where he then rotates again.
