Dropbox breaking Mate in Mint 14

Post by egon1024 »

Hey folks - I've installed a fresh copy of Mint 14 (no upgrade - just blew away what was there and installed fresh). I then performed the requisite apt-get update; apt-get dist-upgrade. Next step was to install the nvidia driver(s) (nvidia-current-updates). Rebooted after each step, logged in, no problem.

The problem comes after installing dropbox. I installed the regular "dropbox" meta package from the mint repo (that installed a whole bunch of stuff). Now, when I log in, I get the "Welcome to Linux Mint" window and a mouse cursor, but nothing else. No panel, no menu. I have to log out with C-A-D.
I've even gone so far as to redo the whole process the same way, with the same result.

Help? Is there any other info I should be providing that will help with debugging this? Thanks in advance.

Hello egon1024 and welcome to Mint,

I've never had any problems with dropbox on mate. How exactly did you install it.
all you had to install was nautilus-dropbox it would pull other dependencies.

Here what I would do if you can get to a terminal
run the following commands one at a time.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get purge dropbox
sudo apt-get install nautilus-dropbox
