Last week I decided to switch to Linux Mint from MS Windows on my compaq 610 with 3gb memory and a 320gb hard drive. After several aborted installation efforts from a disk and a portable hard drive I bought Linux Mint 14.1 32bit from the Linux shop. The disk works fine as a live disk, I'm using it now, but crashes on installation. Normally the majority of files have been copied when the following prompt appears;
errno 5 input/output error '/rofs/usr/share/icons/mate/256x256
This is accompanied by advice that the disk or disk drive may be faulty.
Can anyone help?
It took about 6 attempts but finally the software gave in and installed. Who knows why? (rethorical question)
