I am new to linux. I have just installed Mint 14 32bit with cinnamon on my Toshiba Satellite L300 Laptop. The CPU is running at high speeds and the fan constantly running in high speed. My laptop is overheating and shutting down my laptop in about 15 minutes. Before installing mint, I had Ubuntu 12.10 on this computer, and the samething was happening. Prior to installing linux, I had windows 7 on this computer for several years without any issues. Any suggestions on what is causing this?
Thanks

Re: Laptop overheading with Mint 14
i had a similar issue and it was due to cinnamon running my CPU constantly at around 50 to 70%. I downloaded and installed linuxmint Mate 32bit ( added Compiz for special affects ) and problem was resolved. Maybe you should try do the same ?
