Mint 11 fails to update

Post by marinestu »

Hello All

Would someone please let me know what the /var/lib/apt/lists file should look like for Mint 11.

I have been following the tread http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=75385 to try and resolve the issue that my Mum is having with updating her computer but am not able to see how to resolve this issue.

I have tried to comment out some of the repos in the file /var/lib/apt/lists to pinpoint where the issue could be. Although there does indeed seem to be some dead links I can't pinpoint where the problem is coming from.

Any help or pointers would be great...

Please see the below

Linux Mint 11, and the Ubuntu release on which it is based, has been obsoleted and reach end-of-life as of October 2012. Ubuntu has also started removing repositories for that release, and so you will have increasing problems to install new software or upgrade already installed software. You would be recommend to install Linux Mint 13, the current long-term support release with support till April 2017, or Linux Mint 14, the latest release with the newest software and support till April 2014.

You can download either version through here: http://www.linuxmint.com/oldreleases.php. Linux Mint 11 had as the main edition GNOME 2 as a desktop environment. MATE is the replacement for that on Linux Mint 13 and 14. A more modern desktop environment, based on current technology but still have the same "classic desktop" look is Cinnamon.

Hello xenopeek

Thanks for getting back to me.

I did wonder if the servers were down as when I tried to hit the failing urls they were not available via the browser.

I guess i will have to upgrade Mums computer to Mint 14.

Have a good weekend

All the best

Its better to go with mint 13 if you want to stay out of your mums house for 5 years ;). Mint 13 has 5 years support, mint 14 is 1,5 years i think.
