compiz woes / cubeaddon on mint 14

Post by qwizzer »

hi i have a few problems with compiz

1) every now n again when lots of things are running it will jam everything up. say if im playing music or browsing the music will start looping for several seconds then snap back to normal once it catches itself....

2) im trying to put a picture on the top of the cube, but i cant find the 'cubeaddon' plugin, otherwise known as cube deformation plugin. i think this is the only way to put a picture on top ?

3) every now and again i get one program crash, but not fully. ie just the decoration of firefox crashes (ie the bit at the top of the window) but everything else remains working.

i searched for the cubeaddon extensively, tried to compile it but couldnt figure out how. can anyone help ?

i am using:
a dell lattitute e6500 laptop
with nvidia 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G98M [Quadro NVS 160M] (rev a1)
the nvidia driver is: 173
and im on Kernel~3.5.0-17-generic i686 (nadia)

some, perhaps relevant parts from the logs :
syslog:

I don't know if I can help you out that much becuase compiz is just one of those apps that require careful configuration, but as far as cube deformation, I use that too, and if it helps you, these are all the compiz packages I have installed in Synaptic:

qwizzer,
you are using mint14 nadia based on ubuntu 12.10 (has nothing to do with lmde- the debian-based mint edition)
and synaptic (package manager) is installed in all mint editions.

oh thanks! thought i was because of a lot of broken repo's when i did an update...
i assumed this was because matey bloke had switched over...

i have all those things you have installed, but no deformation thinger shows up... hmmm.

Okay, can you at least get the cube to show up?

yep. cube worky, everything else seems fine, apart from these freezing errors.
a switch to console (alt ctrl f1) and back to graphics seems to unstick it.
