Re: nvidia x server
Please open a terminal from the menu, type the following command, and press Enter:
This will make some useful graphics data appear. With that output I'll be able to tell you if the NVIDIA driver can be made working.
Code: Select all

Hello linux1mint and welcome to Mint,
I am affraid that your nvidia card is not supported very well in Linux as it is an nvidia optimus enabled card.
here is a thread that speaks to this and may offer some help.

Re: nvidia x server
That it's Optimus does not mean that you cannot run the NVIDIA driver, you can install Bumblebee (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bumblebee) to get it working.
However I'd first like to see the inxi -Gx output. And please tell which Mint edition you are using.

Re: nvidia x server
Yes, that's surely NVIDIA Optimus, you need to install Bumblebee. I already posted a link to an easy how-to for that.
