Tearing in other desktops envirenments?
I, I'm using Mint 14 cinnamon x64m I don't have tearing in my cinnamon desktop. The problem is that I have tearing in other desktops that are not cinnamon (mate, for example). I don't know why it happens. Another curiosity is that I have tearing in al the linux distros but not in linux mint cinnnamon. Why does it happens?. Does linux mint come with a special config?. I want to know what you tell me guys. Bye.

Re: Tearing in other desktops envirenments?
Hello Antonio!
Cinnamon has a compositor that usually resolves the tearing problem in the desktop, but in mate this is not available. But I have noticed in LM14 cinnamon, when I see a dvb-t broadcast in VLC player, there is an intense tearing effect. In KDE it is not problem, because it has an option in the system settings which resolve this, but in cinnamon is not have one. So, If anyone knows a solution for this, please tell.

Re: Tearing in other desktops envirenments?
Are you talking video tearing or tearing somewhere else on a desktop? If video tearing, I hope someone has a bit to add. I have tried 4 Linux distros. Video tearing is much more noticeable than in Windows. I don't know why. I haven't run across a post here or anywhere that addresses the subject. I haven't found a magic KDE setting that resolves this.

Only video tearing is in cinnamon. In KDE, there is a 'magic switch' which help if you watch a video in full screen: http://kepkezelo.com/images/np1nls8bfu9vppxrpbc.png
In english " un-redirect fullscreen windows" or something like that.

Hi, mbalazs81. That's the desktop effects, advanced tab, suspend desktop effects for fullscreen windows option, right? I tried that quite some time ago, still have it checked. It does not cure the tearing. Use VSync option does not help either. The level of tearing I see does not make a video unwatchable, but it is noticable and it isn't 100% correct. Maybe it is related to codecs?
