<SOLVED> System Monitor not showing 4 cpus for Quad Core

Post by nwodb »

I'm not sure when I stopped seeing the four processors in System Monitor graph under the resources tab, but it is only showing one now. From what i could find, it looks like my computer is running at a quarter power rather than this being some config that just averages out cpu usage and displays it. -thanks in advance

The answer is right there in front of you. It's your kernel.

So, I have a kernel that only supports one cpu? or I need to pass some argument to allow it to see more than one? what do i need to do to fix?

Yes.

Install an SMP kernel.

http://packages.debian.org/sid/linux-image-3.2.0-4-486
This kernel is not suitable for SMP (multi-processor, multi-core or hyper-threaded) systems.

followed this:
http://www.codeleaf.in/2012/05/how-to-i ... linux.html

now I'm seeing all 4, it looks like it has been like this for some time, just never noticed when I changed from Mint 11 to LMDE.

-Thanks for the help!
