You can also disable it at start-up from Preferences -> Sessions. Untick "Tracker".

Well if it warns you you'll loose Nautilus and the desktop - you will...
Dependencies.... Files that are used by several applications even if they are (seemingly) not related.
Personally I use "locate" to search for files

If you use "locate" you also need to use "sudo updatedb" after changes
locate does not search the disk but a database, but even including the time for "sudo updatedb" it's very fast.
Note that searches are case sensitive so "locate -i" makes it case insensitive
