Increase movie brightness?

I installed Mint on several PCs. Everything is running great, however all my movies play slightly too dark on all of the PCs. I tried using the Totem brightness preferences but it has no effect. I also tried nvidia-settings, but there are no video specific settings and I don't want to make my desktop any brighter. My video driver is the latest repository nvidia-glx-new.

I found this possible way to alter gstreamer video brightness...

but, I can't find the config where I can try setting "brightness=1"
