More info needed. Speakers, connections, sound card model number. Also, you should google to find the answer. Usually you should post the things you have tried based on your research on google before you get around to asking. Because 99% of all issues have been encountered before and their solutions have been posted and are waiting there in cyberspace. When I first got into Linux, I was googling every day. For the record, I am able to get sound on all my systems, including via fiber optic cable, which is awesome for 5.1 surround sound, although I had to do a lot of googling to rig that properly on Linux Mint Nadia Xfce.
My desktop runs 64-bit Linux Mint XFCE, my htpc runs 64-bit Linux Mint Xfce, my secondary htpc runs 64-bit Xubuntu, my answering machine runs 64-bit windows 7, my laptop runs 64-bit Xubuntu.
