I'm searching for the Shrewsoft VPN client, but there does not seem to be a pre-compiled version in the repos, but it was in a older Mint-version?

the last release with ike was precise http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=ike

but you have this ppa with a quantal (nadia) version https://launchpad.net/~jos-dehaes/+archive/ppa
