Nadia (Mint 14) Mate 64 wont install.

Postby pgmer6809 on Wed Feb 13, 2013 6:38 am

I dl'd the mate 64 ISO from the Mint site. I checked that the MD5sum was correct. I then used Ubuntu (Brasero) to burn the iso to a DVD.
When I insert the DVD into a system currently running Maya Mate 64 bit, I get the splash, and the menu.
I can select items from the menu, but all of Integrity Check, Boot Compatibility, and Boot just hang.
I can use TAB to edit the options. So I deleted the Quiet Option and tried again, but it just hangs. no output or progress msgs.
Are there any checks I can do on the DVD to see if it is was burned? i.e. could I dd if=/dev/sr0 | md5sum and see what happens?

Anything else to try?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I had a problem burning a iso using Brasero.

I burned again using K3b and I had success.

Re Brasero. Yes it is very flaky. I never have success with it.

I mounted the (bad) dvd and then used md5sum -c md5sums.txt
to check that each file had been burned OK. (the iso includes a file wth a list of files and md5sums you can use to check that the burning was done ok.
cd to the directory where you mounted the dvd and say:
Code: Select all
md5sum -c md5sums.txt

5 of them had bad md5 hashes.

I installed k3b and used that, and burned a good dvd (after some hassling with the permissions)

There is a bug in the installation process though. You have to manually edit your /etc/apt/sources.list file to change several occurences of nadia
to quantal.

I usually install Xfburn and use it as a replacement for Brasero.

Yes. Xfburn works fine too.
