removed replacement?
I've seen rumors (http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 58#p680160) that there will be a replacement repo for removed. Will there be a global announcement if and when such a repo is rehosted / established? ...Or does someone have an address for a good eplacement repo? Can this be used - http://mirror.informatik.uni-mannheim.d ... untu/pool/)? And how would that work - just drop it into synaptic?

Re: removed replacement?
removed and removed are both discontinued. The mirrorsite you can still use. However, even the mirrorsite will be outdated after a while. On the other hand, all the packages which were available on removed are freely available. If you want e specific application, first to look is Software Manager to check if it is available already in the Mint repository. Secondly, you could ask here if anyone has a link to the website of that application you wnat. Third, you could look for it yourself on the internet if you know the name of the package.
A good place to start is here: http://www.linuxappfinder.com/ and even this site has some applications: http://ubuntu-tweak.com/. In my opinion there's not much of a reason to have a site like removed since all applications are provided to users one way or another. The problem for site owner is keeping everything up-to-date. With each new version, the site owner/maintainer must update the site as well. This was basically the reason for the removed owner to quit the job, lack of time to keep the site up-to-date.

You can get them at the regular sites.veggen wrote:removed... is... is... dead?!!

Alien Arena: http://red.planetarena.org/index.html
Hedgewars: http://www.hedgewars.org/
If i can find them, why can 't you? Like i said, everything is still available, but then on the regular websites!
Re: removed replacement?
I can find them, no problem. It's just that I couldn't care less about compiling them from sources and manually updating.
The Hedgewars maker was kind enough to rehost the debs (still, no PPA or anything, so no auto-updates), but I have no clue where to get Alien Arena or other games... removed wasn't just a matter of hosting. It had a nice collection of pre-built debs and allowed for easy updates (and wasn't outdated like the usual repos).

Re: removed replacement?
Thanks for trying to help, appreciated, but... the listed sites just show how much removed will be missed, as all I can find there are links to removed and outdated Ubuntu repos, nothing else...
The good news is that Steam is coming.

Re: removed replacement?
For almost every application there's a website available. You just need to do a good search on the internet. It's not like removed/removed is gone that all those applications/games are gone. I really don't understand why people trust so much on removed/removed. Every application/game is still available and can be found on the internet as long you keep searching for it. Or else place a question here where to find the application you're looking for.
Re: removed replacement?
the thing is we are noobs. lazy noobs who don't wanna learn anything but the minimum. I'm not ashamed.
there's no easy to install .deb package on Knights website, nor on Summoning Wars'. Lips of Suna has no PPA for Quantal. those are all open source games, and a Windows user can play them while I can't.
