Mint wont detect my rt73 USB-card

Post by Tonmi »

Hello.

I'm fairly new to the Linux-world and completely new to Mint. I've been using Ubuntu and OpenSUSE before.

To my question/problem;

I have a USB wireless networkcard( D-Link DWA-111 using thr rt73-chip) And Mint 14 MATE 64-bit wont detect it. The lamp on the card do not even light up.
I have downloaded the latest version of rutilt(v0.18) but I do not know how to install it. Every guide I read is too complex or do not compare to my hardware/software.
I can _not_ connect to internet via cable on the computer using Mint.

Can anyone explain to me as if to a 4-year old how to get my drivers/rutilt to work.

Note: I just want to be able to connet to the internet wireless so I dont really care what method is used.

Thanks
Tommy

Please open a terminal from the menu, type this command, and press enter:

Code: Select all

inxi -N
Then please copy the output and post that here.

I suppose you have already tried installing compat-drivers or compat-wireless with chattr?

I dont know about compat but we tried a bunch of things. Think he concluded that Mint is trying to use the wrong drivers.

Device ID 07d1:3c06 which I read from your dmesg, has been present in the rt73usb driver in the kernel since 2008: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/g ... 26ec92c227

While it indeed looks like the driver might be wrong, I don't really believe this since it has been present in the kernel for over four years and no other kernel driver claims this device.
