I have just finished installing Linux Mint 14 KDE and my favorite softwares on it. I found out that Rosegarden on Nadia is the 12.04 version. But I would like to use the new Rosegarden 12.12. However, nowhere online, I found someone who have compiled rosegarden 12.12 for mint 14 or ubutnu 12.10.
But I found the following links:
https://launchpad.net/rosegarden
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rosegarden
There I discovered that someone is already developing rosegarden 12.12 for ubuntu raring ringtail that will be equivalent to mint 15.
Could there be some problem if I would install rosegarden 12.12 from that ppa on my mint 14? If so what? And if I decide to do it how can I make my mint 14 install from the ppa that is designed for raring ringtail?
Thanks in advance.
Can I install a software from a ppa for the next version?

Re: Can I install a software from a ppa for the next version
It probable is not a good idea. The ppa developers restrict it to a certain version because their software expects certain version of software for its dependencys.
If you install the ppa, you will probably get a lot of Dependant errors, or wrong file version errors.
You can always boot up a live CD and try to see it it works there. If it does, then I guess your ok to do it for real.

Re: Can I install a software from a ppa for the next version
Thank you for the information.
I made a backup of my partition with clonezilla to try and if things went wrong undo what I did. But in the links I quoted above there's nothing saying how to add those ppa's to the repo's list. Some ppa's say what address we should add to the repo's list. But those of rosegarden don't.
Can someone explain me how I could add that rosegarden ppa to my list?

Re: Can I install a software from a ppa for the next version
I followed the links you provided. Neither one is a ppa.
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/raring/+so ... 12.12.25-1
is the source code so you can compile it yourself
Not very useful for the average user.
Though it does tell you what the dependencies are, so you can check your package manager to see if you have the required files.
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rosegarden
has some .deb files that you can easily install by double clicking on them.
The installer will warn you if your system does not meet the dependencies.
you will have to check the page and re-install the software if there are any updates.

Re: Can I install a software from a ppa for the next version
Unfortunately I didn't find the deb files even in the links I myself posted. I would like to install from there because it seems they are official developpers of ubutnu packages. However I found the .deb file of rosegarden 12.12.25 compiled for quantal here:
https://launchpad.net/~kxstudio-team/+a ... ld/4178960
Is there some problem or danger in installing packages from sources like this?
