[SOLVED] Mint 14 KDE disk md5sum & installation crashes

Post by terauck »

Hello. I am aware of this thread but it is marked as solved.

The iso file I downloaded has the correct md5sum (c98650e0ee446d0570c104dd6e8c5b41).

I have tried several burns using GnomeBaker, kde-services and k3b respectively. In each case the disk returned the same md5sum (635dfb7d48dae1be46cf610a3f501654) which differed from the iso md5sum. I created an iso from one of the burns and the new iso had the same md5sum as the disk.

I tried installing to the hard drive this morning. While I was selecting the partitions to be used, the installer crashed.

At this point, the exercise looks like a lost cause.

Can anyone suggest a way to proceed?

I have tried several burns using GnomeBaker, kde-services and k3b respectively.
I had a quick look on this and they all seem to depend on wodim. You can verify this by typing:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get --simulate remove gnomebaker kde-services k3b
In any case you could try and install cdrtools:
https://launchpad.net/~brandonsnider/+archive/cdrtools
It's the original package that wodim is a fork of. Wodim isn't maintained but cdrtools is and it works just fine.

Thanks but I don't have a Mint system on which I can install that package. In the thread I mentioned k3b was used successfully to burn the image to a disk. I'll try with grafburn and report back.

Grafburn is the weirdest software I have ever used.

The result is the same as that achieved with the other burners.

Wodim is installed under the name cdrkit.

For the benefit of others, I burnt a DVD+R disk without difficulty. I have used R+W disks for isos for some time but for some reason the image of an installation disk burns incorrectly to an R+W disk.
