Mint 14 exclusively on Intel HD - disable additional

Post by TriumfThye »

Hi

Mint 13 Cinnamon ran graphics exclusively on Intel Ivy Bridge HD 4000 (Intel Core i7-3720QM cpu) since I did not install additional drivers for my graphic card (AMD Radeon HD 7970M). Now I'm running Mint 14 Cinnamon.

Mint 14 Cinnamon has an open source AMD/ATI display driver automatically installed during system installation. How do I remove this(all) driver(s) for the graphic card - or disable the graphic card - to run graphics exclusively on my Intel Ivy Bridge HD 4000? I only use my graphic card when booting into Windows - I do not want it running hot in Mint for no purpose.

Please don't tell me to uninstall xserver-xorg-video-ati (which I've obviously tried and tried again with no luck) or something like that without a (very) precise description, thanks.

(First time in six years with Linux that I didn't find my answer somewhere. Everybody seems to want the opposite of me this time).

Thanks again

Thye

Well. As always i found a solution.

sudo echo auto > /sys/class/drm/controlD65/device/power_profile

...and the fan calmed as the heat laid off my graphic card. Wow, I'm happy.
