mouse/keyboard dont work after login

mouse/keyboard dont work after login

Postby gio4 on Mon Feb 18, 2013 6:42 am

Hi,
after i installed (with a lot of terminal work) the driver for nvidia i recognized some issues.

1. The mouse and keyboard are not working after login.
I mean they work properly on grub, (i have a autologin) but when cinnamon appear they don't work until i unplug and replug the usb-dongle.
When i replug the usb the mouse and keyboard works fine! ...verry strange i know!

2. The Sound don't work.
On the small icon for sound in the bar/panel i get "Output Device" --> "Dummy output"
Before the install there was written something else and the sound works properly

3. My NTFS - Disk are not mounted automatically as before.
OK for that i made some change on fstab and i can now look into making some links etc. but before it was shown automatically on the Desktop.

I am looking something like how to autoconfigure everything or only Sound and mouse/keyboard.

Thanx for your help in advance!

Am not sure, but i faced similar issue of my trackpad and keyboard not working.
Probably, your xorg.conf file is corrupted.

Can you post the specs of your Nvidia Graphics card? If it is Optmius and you have another Intel Chip, then you may have to install bumblebee after purging the existing Nvidia drivers to get it working.

- Try the commands taken from this tutorial.

Code: Select all
sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak
sudo nvidia-xconfig
sudo nvidia-settings
Cheers,
If there is a drive, there will be a path

The same with my mouse and keyboard.
Nothing is working until i unplug and replug the USB dongle!
But the keyboard is working properly on GRUB.

The same with the sound:
On output devices i have only "Dummy Output"

Please post hardware specifications (graphcis card, operating system ,etc) so that others can narrow down your problem and offer assistance.
The below command can be used to get system information.

Code: Select all
uname -a

Code: Select all
inxi -F

Under Cinnamon in "System Settings" --> "Sound" i get 5 Tabs "Output", "Input", "Hardware", "Sound Effects", "Applications"

The First Tab "Output" has one entry: "Dummy Output"
The 2nd, 3rd and 5th, "Input", "Hardware" and "Applications" are empty - no entry's

But i can remember that there was entry's e.g. on "Input"-Tab the micro of my connected WebCam. etc.!

Isn't there a way in Linux (Mint Debian Edition) to autoreconfigure the system?

P.S. When i unplug and replug the WebCam, then the WebCam is shown in "Input"- and "Hardware"-Tab but not from the beginning after reboot.

some Help :? :? :? ???

After searching around and find nothing about my issue i installed usbview from the Software Manager!

starting it in terminal give me following Error.:

Can not open the file /proc/bus/usb/devices
Verify that you have USB compiled into your kernel, have the USB core modules loaded, and have the usbdevs filesystem mounted.

...and i am wondering is this helpful? ...and what i have to do?
e.g. How to verify if i have USB compiled in the kernel? etc.
