Akonadi dysfunctional after my Mint 14 KDE upgrade...

Post by Armstrong »

This week I upgraded from Mint 13 KDE to Mint 14 KDE. I did so from a live DVD. After restoring my software and data from USB sticks, I am having serious problems with Akonadi. It will not run. From the Akonadi Server Self-Test - KDE Control Module, I get the following error responses:

MySQL Server Log contains errors.
Akonadi control process not registered at D-Bus.
Akonadi server process not registered at D-Bus.
No resource agents found.
Current Akonadi server error log found.
and
Previous Akonadi server error log found.

Is there a simple fix for this problem? Any and all suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.
Slainte,
Hunter

Edit to add: FWIW, on the new install, it appears that my hard drive was divided into two large partitions, and one smaller sub-partition of the second (I presume LinuxSwap). I believe the operating system went to one partition and the data/media to the other. Also, in the Akonadi Server Self-Test, in addition to the red X's next to the above list, there were blue (as opposed to green) check marks next to MySQL custom server configuration not available and Protocol version check not possible.

Re: Akonadi dysfunctional after my Mint 14 KDE upgrade..[Sol

Post by Armstrong »

It isn't a pretty solution, but it is a solution. After playing around with MySQL trying to solve the problem there, I rendered my computer unusable. After re-installing Mint 14 KDE and KDE 4.10, the Akonadi server appears to be working. I can open Kontact. The problem must have been in the installation of Mint. 14 KDE.
Slainte,
Hunter

EDIT TO ADD: This solution was temporary. I can no longer open Kontact and I get the exact same error report as before!

I have the exact same problem. Cant get kmail and korganizer to work.
I have the following report.
Is there no other way to fix this without reinstall the system? I finally have everything I need configured and installed, it would be a bother to do it all over again. :s

I posted the solution prematurely. After the re-install, Akonadi seemed to work momentarily. A few hours later and now I get the same identical error report when I attempt to open Kontact. Back to the drawing board.

I think I managed to solve the problem without the need to reinstall the system.
I deleted everything related to Akonadi in the Home folder. And then after restart the system I reconfigured Kmail and it worked flawlessly. Dont know if it will work with you. But for me it did.

I still haven't found a solution that works. I have even reinstalled Mint 13 KDE and Akonadi/PIMS will not run. I cannot get Akonadi started. I did enter the following command at root: akonadictl start. It resulted in the following:

"akonadiserver" crashed too often and will not be restarted!

I have highlighted what I thought was a key element. I have yet to find the Security Manual though. From browsing other Linux forums, I gather that this isn't exactly a new problem. I have read that it involves passwords for Akonadi, but I have no idea how to execute this solution, if, in fact, it is the solution to my problem. Does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks.
