Need quick search ability in Thunar window

Post by rmcellig »

I am using Mint 14 xfce, and really like it! One thing I need to do is quick searches. I tried Catfish but it is slow. On my iMac when I open a finder window, there is the ability to search directly in the window. I am hoping there is a way to do this in Mint 14 xfce. My work requires this:

I bring up a window listing flac files. I need to display just the thad jones files. On my iMac I would just type thad jones and immediately they are displayed as I type. I'm looking for the same kind of functionality.

What are my options?

Thanks!!

Hi,

This won't do a thing for your greater issue (quick-search ability in Thunar). But if you organize your music into directories with this structure:
/home/rmcellig/Music/artist1/album1/songs
/home/rmcellig/Music/artist1/album2/songs
/home/rmcellig/Music/artist1/album3/songs
/home/rmcellig/Music/artist2/album1/songs
/home/rmcellig/Music/artist1/album2/songs

And so on, then you wont need such a feature in order to quickly find songs by the artist of your choice; you could just go to the /home/rmcellig/Music/thad jones/(album of your choice) directory. Or, if you prefer, I presume that you could go to the /home/rmcellig/Music/thad jones directory and do your search from there, searching your current directory's subfolders instead of your entire hard drive. That would almost certainly have to be faster.
