I tried to install OpenOffice but Mint would not take it.

you are giving WAY too little information

Anyway, the best solution... open synaptic and search for openoffice.org, although I dont see why you need it as I assume libre office is pre-installed

AFTER further investigation I found that out. Still a newbie. Thanks for the reply anyway.

LibreOffice comes installed standard with Mint but if you need to know how to do this then read this > https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Ins ... e_on_Linux :)
