Missing gnome-terminal and update manager halts {SOLVED]

Post by denwoods »

Trying to run update manager in Mint14 cinnamon but stops downloading and gives me following error messages:
E:dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg -- configure-a' to correct the problem
E:_cache->open() failed, please report.

I tried opening the Terminal with Ctrl-Alt-T but get another message:
There was an error running gnome-terminal:
Fail to execute child process "gnome-terminal" (no such file or directory)

What can I do now to access Terminal and hopefully correct the other problem?

Press Ctrl+Alt+F1 to go to the virtual terminal. You can log in there and run commands. You can return to the graphical desktop usually with Ctrl+Alt+F7 or F8. (At Ctrl+Alt+F2 through F6 you have 5 more virtual terminals.)

Thanks for your reply. Have accessed virtual terminal and tried
sudo --configure -a
but keep getting invalid parameter error message, and reading prompts did not help me. From an earlier post by "ber" he solved his same problem this way - SO -

What am I doing wrong?!
