New PoliceState CAS System to hit USA Internet Users

The Copyright Alert System (CAS) involves deep packet inspection of all outgoing and incoming data thru the major ISP's in America allegedly including AT&T, Cablevision, Comcast, Time Warner and Verizon.

American citizens and foreign nations linking to USA websites should immediately see a substantial degradation of bandwidth. Of course USA citizens who are paying large amounts for their unlimited contracts will certainly be up in arms however you can bet the farm the USA Gov has linked ISP's running CAS secretly under a full immunity contract under the guise of 'National Security'. Meaning any and all lawsuits heard in a USA Court will certainly fall on deaf ears and fail.

USA citizens should move to deploy encrypted files, encrypted streams and make use of https whenever possible. Encrypted data should show in a deep packet inspection as simply encrypted data and the origin IP. If the origin IP is a proxy that would help to provide a sense of keeping your data and sources somewhat private.

With CAS running on major USA ISP's, non-encrypted data sent into the clear will show up as plain data, recorded and likely used against you in any number of ways not excluding showing up in a job interview, placing you on a no fly list or being asked for digital ownership of select games or files.

Opinion:

It appears those whose hooks are found in all USA and Western Media outlets, Hollywood and Digital Music services has used their corruption with USA elected officials to push lawmakers into turning USA into a virtual PoliceState under the guise of protecting their 'copyright materials'. The fines and extreme federal prison sentences dictate a entirely different nefarious agenda. Some open Internet groups such as Anonymous have pushed back by defacing websites and posted some of the White House data files exposing intentions, agendas and utter corruption. However, such groups face enormous individual risks with USA spending huge amounts of funding to track them down and capture them.

What is the public faux face of the CAS?

It's a secret behind closed doors agreement between the major USA Internet Service providers and those connected to film and music industry sold as aiming to prevent illegal copyright filesharing under the sealed guise of 'National Security' to insure immunity from a tidal wave of lawsuits.

OPINION: What is the dirty face of CAS?

With USA Officials successfully getting to rewrite ISP's service term agreements, they open the door for ever invasive attacks on your Internet libertys, freedoms and privacys. CAS is just the tip of the iceberg, one agenda and paragraph of many to come. Soon, these officials will push to prevent free open source digital software to interact with copyright files which would seriously impact Open Source Software, Linux and all that includes. Your CAS score and file can and likely will be used against you in all future employment interviews just as many employment and landlords, banks, financial groups run credit scores on you now.

CAS is likely designed by policestate agencys inside USA Gov. to head off the push for universal Wi-Fi coverage that many citys across USA are trying to setup and impliment. Almost immediately CAS would roll up anonymous repeat infringers on a universal Wi-Fi connection and seek criminal charges. After threats, blackmail against Librarys and City Metro IT's, universal Wi-Fi would either be totally dismantled or totally gutted of usefulness.

So is CAS a new 'law'? It appears to be a secret backdoor agreement under the guise of 'National Security' which carrys penaltys and fines yet is not being sold to the USA public as a 'law' yet has criminal charges attached to it. Is your head spinning? It should be but that is normal when shyster attorneys are behind such efforts.

Real Life CAS Flagged Example:

You bought and own a new triple blue-ray Star Wars series of DVD's. The agreement states you have the 'right' to have digital copys. You go to your popular torrent site, locate the files and not using a proxy, VPN nor encryption you download those copys. Your ISP notify's you of the FLAG in your named account. You must pony up $35 dollars to contest the flag on your record, should you win you are supposed to recieve a check back for $35. However online databases across USA and overseas would likely not be updated to show you won in arbitration. You then stand a distinct possibility of explaining to a future employer interview resource manager why you downloaded a illegal copy of xyz. Multiple CAS flags not only pushes the possibility of being blacklisted by that ISP but also from future employers whose resource departments check for that.

Unintended Consequences:

When a goose stepping agency attempts to force Internet privacy invasions on a nation of people, a great many of those citizens become educated in avoiding and evading those invasions on their every word, text, VOIP calls and file transfers via encryption, VPN's, SSH connections and proxy connections.

Conclusion:

I see CAS as a wolf in sheeps clothing. It is being 'sold' as a mere insider rule to allegedly curb rampant copyright file sharing while in my opinion it is a policestate tool to invade every aspect of your digital online life to record and later use against you in any number of ways. I see CAS as a unethical, immoral bandwidth thief which restricts free Internet access even when what you are allegedly doing is entirely legal. I also see CAS as a deliberate blow against free universal WiFi across America's metro citys as well as spreading a policestate chilling effect across USA's ISP's, Users and those overseas that connect to USA websites.

Those around the world that watched the USA Hollywood Oscar awards and heard the speeches and skits, saw and heard about the forces trying to force these draconian federal laws down the American citizens throats. What remains is for the American Internet users and global Internet users accessing USA based servers to become aware of how far the group representing the copyright holders are willing to go.

A series of cases in New Zealand's 3 strike law which appears to have been secretly created with back room deals in collaboration or a cabal with the same group representing the USA copyright holders appears to have gone after New Zealand citizens who had the legal right to download a torrent digital copy HOWEVER because of the torrent and P2P protocol they were charged with a crime/violation because during the download phase, a upload to one or a number of individuals can and often do occur. Thus the group using a possibility of a upload to a individual that did not have a legal right to that copyright file used that loophole to corner the individuals. While this might seem to nearly everyone as a mere technicality and would be tossed out by the legal system, that doesn't seem to be the case. [1]

I tried to portray as much as possible about the punishment and criminal charges phrase on the USA citizens end of the CAS system however the secret back room deals which forged the CAS system has deliberately hidden and kept such punishment largely silent. 6 local citizens in my area have now been charged with illegal downloads via CAS, their ISP and the copyright holder. I strongly suspect those citizens will be scape goated, be subjected to enormous fines and likely have negative entrys posted in their criminal watch folders which many local business's now have routine access to in pre-employment, post-employment as well as the airports TSA agents and overseas agencys. [2] That is quite a start for day one of the CAS System.

While torrent users can and often do have an entirely legal right to the digital copy they are downloading, they should now make certain they are requiring only encrypted connections to and from as well as using the latest peer blocking lists to try and weed out sending information to anyone in clear text. Also be aware the group that is pushing these draconian laws is actively attempting to exploit the torrent and p2p protocol to implicate and charge anyone that is legally in their full rights to download a digital copy to backup their physical purchase of that same medium.
