How do I download files from LGIP-340NV phone?

Post by computerilliterate »

First of all, I chose my screen name for a reason.

I want to learn how to download a photo from a phone (the LGIP-340NV). I plug my phone into my laptop and nothing happens (I have Linux Mint 11). I have looked everywhere on my computer I know how in order to find out what to do, but nothing.

I have been to several message boards; as *always* happens, no help whatsoever.

How do I down load a photo?

Depends on your phone. There is no single answer to it. Some phones are developed by sane people, and just mount as a USB storage device (like an external hard disk). An icon should appear on your desktop, or you should be asked what you want to do, after you plug in the phone. Some phones are developed by insane people, and will only exchange files if you use the manufacturer's own application. Which is usually Windows only.

Generally, doing an Internet search for "linux brand model where you replace brand and model with your phone's brand and model will turn up something.

Feel free to share your brand and model here. Also, please do share which version of Linux Mint you are using as that may be relevant. If you don't know, please open a terminal and type the following command:

Code: Select all

inxi -S
Copy the output here (see the terminal's Edit menu for copying text).

Thanks, xenopeek.

What does it mean to 'open a terminal' on my computer?

Open your menu, find the application called terminal. But you don't need to do that of course, if you know which version and edition of Linux Mint you installed.

Set your phone allowed to connect to your computer, phone settings.
After this computer ask what you do as opened media where photos.

This is way how my android allow it.

@xenopeek: Thanks, but when I say 'computer illiterate', I mean *illiterate*. I don't know which linuxmint it is because someone put it in for me.

When I open 'terminal', this is what I get:

( Reply hazy, ask again later. )

What do I do now?

@FireSoul: thanks, but your reply is indecipherable.

I've removed dobbelyou's post. That was a dangerous command to share with a newbie, and not helpful here.

Type the command:

Code: Select all

inxi -S
press enter at the end, and share its output here.

We do need to know more about the phone though, so try finding out. Sometimes more details are under the battery lid.

Thanks re: the bad post. Another reason I am reticent to use message boards or click on anything I don't understand: to someone like me, a computer is nothing more than a way for someone a million miles away to rip me off or mess with me.

Ok, I click on 'terminal'; I get the little window with that stuff; but there's no where for me to type 'inxi -s' into. Where am I supposed to type something in?

Re: How do I download files from LGIP-340NV phone?

Post by xenopeek »

I've added details to your topic. Neither LG nor the Internet is helpful with this I'm afraid, all they want to do is sell me batteries for your LGIP-340NV phone :| Perhaps this phone is part of a series, or has a specific operating system, and we could try to find more information with that. But alas, this model seems to not be listed anywhere and I can't find any specs for it. I'm not sure how to help with this...

Do you have a memory card on that phone or is that picture stored in phone memory?
