Is there an easy way of updating flash using package manager or something please or should it update automatically using update manager?
I keep getting the error message that my flash player needs updating from 11.1. to 11.2. I downloaded an .rpm file and Adobe's site tells me to use # rpm -Uvh <rpm_package_file> in terminal
This does nothing. They say it needs doing from the root, so I typed cd\ to get to the root. Then # rpm -Uvh <rpm_package_file> results in a bash syntax error near unexpected token newline!
Are there the security issues using flash with linux such that it needs updating with some gigantic download every few days and shutting down all tabs in all windows every time like in Windows/Darwin?
Or is there some better way than using flash with linux please?

Re: Updating flash
Hello vintagepen,priviledges
Adobe-flashplugin 11.2 is in the repository and can be installed from synaptic -
you don't need to use the terminal to install it.
go to Menu >Administration>synaptic It will ask you for your password enter it. then do a search for adobe-flashplugin and install it from there.
When the instruction say they want you to become root they are not talking about the root folder but in the terminal
you would enter
when you hit enter it will ask for your password and when you enter it it will give you temporary root/administrator privileges.
Also in order to install the program you have to be in the same folder where you downloaded it to.
so in this case it would be much easier install it using synaptic.
good luck
