Problems loading new Adobe flash player .273

Post by Ru1 »

Hi,

I was wondering if you could help with the loading of the new Adobe flash player updated in the last few days. My browser is Firefox. I use Linux Mint 11.

I have tried all the previous topics to try and get this to install, but with no luck.

I'm not sure whether it is my inexperience for it not installing.

I have downloaded the new version from Adobe, extracted it, but terminal will not install.

Can somebody please help me out with the installation? Although I have been using Linux Mint for almost 2 years, the Terminal side is very daunting. Therefore an "idiots guide" would be appreciated :D .

Many thanks

Ruth

]Hello Ru1,

First of all Mint 11 became obsolete in Oct. of last year see this page : http://www.linuxmint.com/oldreleases.php so you may want to update to a newer version.

secondly the newest and latest adobe flashplugin is 11.2 Adobe will not release any newer flashplayer for linux. and will only release their newest ones through google chrome for linux. That means until someone figures out a way to get around that you either will have to use google chrome or chromium for any newer version of flash or use 11.2 which is in the Mint repositories.
You'll have to upgrade to Mint 13 or 14 though to get it. and it can be installed via synaptic package manager.

With that being said you can download and install it from adobe - but you will still have verison 11.2 see the notice on Adobe's download page.

In that case for mint you wold have to download the tar.gz package open it in with the archive manager and extract it.
go to the extracted folder as root

Code: Select all

sudo nuatilus
then copy the file libflashplayer.so to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins. That's it.

good luck
