LMDE never updates

Post by jameskoiman »

I installed LMDE and did updates for pack 6 and i have not gotten any new updates since and that was a couple months ago...is this normal? When I had Linux Mint 13 it would update every couple days and LMDE none ?

LMDE Updates, for the most part, come in Update Packs. Besides a few specific cases, no updates come through between update packs. The exceptions are firefox and thunderbird updates, which *should* be timely (although they're still on version 18... although TBH I like version 17 better). Also, critical security flaws will be fixed. Otherwise, there will not be any updates between Update Packs (except sometimes for Mint software, but this is fairly rare). Update Packs are snapshots of Debian Testing at certain times. Right now, Testing is frozen, and is only receiving bug fixes (no new software). Once Debian Wheezy is released (hopefully this month, although possibly later), Testing will unfreeze and start rolling again. This will be a fairly turbulent time, so the next update pack probably won't be until at least a month afterwards. This means my educated guess is in April. Testing will basically catch up on more than 8 months of frozen-ness, and packages will most likely break in that upgrade. Once things start to stabilize, there will be another update pack. If you would like to use Testing (for more frequent updates), you can look here: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 1&t=123323. This can (and will) cause more frequent breakages, but the breaks are spread out, rather than all centered into one update pack upgrade.
