SKYPE sound problems

Just loaded the Mint and found that Skype crackles badly. In fact its unusable. I have tested teh sound and when the system says rgt or left its perfect. But Skype is bad? Any pointers please?

Just been on the Skype site and it states that I should download asla. Did that but Skype isn't seeing Alsa to change it. So how do I change these things?
