This is dumb but I changed the mint menu icon on the panel from text to MInt icon and the size and now the middle of the panel is striped white and mint green and won't allow any preferences to be set. Tried a number of things; unistall/reinstall mint menu, reset mate panel from command line, new panel/delete old; but I still can't get the mint menu text icon back to default on the desktop panel. Also, there's like a transparent square overlay on the desktop which I assume is the mint menu icon. Anybody know how to restore the mate panel with the mint menu to its original settings? I'd appreciate the help. Thanks.

Re: Huge Mint Menu Icon
In order to change the menu button icon, you had to link to an image. Try going to the directory with the image you linked to and move that image out of the directory (or rename it). The other option if you really want to use that image on your menu button is to use Gimp to resize the image to no more than 24x24 pixels and it should fit on the panel.

Re: Huge Mint Menu Icon
Thanks tdockery97, for the fast response. I'm pretty sure (99%) that the icon and size was something I picked from the preferences on the panel menu applet, not something I customized with my own png. I tried to navigate to where the mintmenu program files would be but no luck. I'm new to Linux and have no idea where the icon for the mintmenu panel would be so I could delete it. If you can direct me to where such an image would be, I'd appreciate it.

Does your panel look something like this?:
If so, could you try this:
Open a terminal
- you can just right-click the desktop and click "Open in terminal", and enter
It should get the icon back to the default "cogwheel":
I think you may have chosen a mintmenu icon ending with .svg instead of one with .png

Re: Huge Mint Menu Icon
Glad it worked out, Jeff
I had it happen to me with the mintmenu on another install (LM13 xfce instead of mate - but exactly the same problem)
- forum mod zerozero provided the quick fix.
