Forcing volume to a certain level?

Postby mithas on Tue Mar 12, 2013 4:32 am

Hi,

I'm using Mint Linux 14 and the onboard soundcard/speaker. I'm trying to find a way to control the volume from the command line/cron, so that users can't turn the volume up too loud.

Anyone got any ideas around this?

Many thanks,

Simon

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

If it's for work machines, ok, but it's not going to be very helpful if it's for a home machine. Videos are notorious for having wildly differing volume levels. Nevertheless, this is what you need:

Code: Select all
amixer --help
Mint Testing Team & Mint Donor #3606
KDE 4.12.0, custom preemptive kernel 3.12.5,
Intel i7 4770K @ 4.7GHz, 16GB 2666MHz XMP,
4 Samsung 840 PRO 512GB SSDs in RAID0,
6TB HW RAID10, dual 24" Acer X243H,
Gigabyte nVidia GTX 680 Super Overclock
