[Solved] Dropbox Issue LM14 KDE

Post by cottfcfan »

I've been trying to install Dropbox on LM14 KDE, but have hit a problem.
My data is on a seperate partition called "storage", but Dropbox will not let me put the Dropbox folder anywhere else but in my home folder.
I have used Dropbox from the repo, & a more upto date one from the site.
This is not an issue i have had before, & Dropbox works as expectwed on Kubuntu 12.04.
Is this a Mint issue? & Does anyone else have this problem & know of a workaround?

I'm not sure why it won't let you choose another location, but maybe this will work:
1) Quit Dropbox (to stop the daemon)
2) Move the directory where you want it
3) Create a symlink in the old location
4) Start Dropbox again

Thanks for your reply Zalbor.
I tried your suggestion of creating a symlink, but unless i'm doing something wrong, (which is likely as i've never used symlinks before),
it just started creating one Dropbox folder inside another in my Home folder, caught in a loop indefinitly.
I used the command:

Code: Select all

ln -s /storage/Dropbox /home/myname/Dropbox
Is this correct? or am I doing something wrong?

Apparently this is an issue with all the Ubuntu 12.10 series & derivatives, including Mint on 64bit.
The workaround for anyone else having the same problem, is found here in post 6:
