Too many workspaces

Post by geekmatko »

Hi,
I am new to linux mint, and very bad in English...
After i installed mint on my computer, I started playing with mint's feautres. From some reason i wanted to konw how looks if i open very large amount of workspaces. Well i stoped at 96 workspace, and now when i go to workspaces switcher i see just grey screen and none workspace, so i can't close any workspace. But i can switch between them with Ctrl+alt+narrowkey.
Is there perhaps some key shortcut for closing workspaces, or maybe some other option to terminate workspaces.
Thanks for reply.

Hi,

I'm using mint cinnamon edition . I'm not sure about short cuts, but have you tried right clicking the task bar ,click on settings ,click on applets . From the window that pops up you can select some applets that can help manage workspaces . I use 'work space switcher' applet, which adds big work space buttons [1][2][3][4] onto the task bar.

Not that I really need them ,as you said I can simply Ctrl+Alt+Arrow key to switch workspace.

Also you can add a 'thingy' << or that translates well :- onto the desk top ,so that for example if you hover your mouse pointer over it ,it brings up a display showing all the open work spaces including whats open on them .

alt F4 closes an open window, however with that many running and preventing your access, I would simple reboot, either with ctrl+alt+del or the soft boot switch that is available on PCs' (desktop or notebook)

--sometimes hotkeys (shortcuts ) do change!

http://linux.about.com/od/commands/l/blcmdl8_reboot.htm
If that doesn't help ctrl+alt+F1, gets to a terminal, and you can rebot from there: it will shutdown the desktop before restarting

Code: Select all

sudo reboot now
--reboot
sudo shutdown now
--power off

My problem is that i cant close any workspace, because i opened too much of them. I can't close it from switcher app (i can just switch between them) and either if i go to hot left corner, because then i see just grey window.

Hmm.
I tried everything, but nothing works. I don't see sense in rebooting or shutdown computer, because when i again start computer there are still too many workspaces on.
I must somehow set number of "opened" workspaces when i log in, or find way to close them. (i hope that we understand each other)
Anyway thanks for your help.

I already answered here => http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 95#p696378 i.e. use the "gsettings set" command inside a terminal window, then reload Cinnamon and it is done.
